MIIT to Revise Standards for Copper, Aluminum Sectors to Curb Low-Level Duplication
On October 20, the State Council Information Office held a press conference to introduce the development of industry and information technology in the first three quarters of 2026. Tao Qing, spokesperson of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and Director of the Operation Monitoring and Coordination Bureau, stated that revenue and profits in the non-ferrous metal industry maintained high growth from January to August, with continuously strengthening innovation capabilities. Moving forward, the MIIT will focus on stabilizing growth and promoting transformation to drive high-quality development in the non-ferrous metal sector, prioritizing three key areas: first, strengthening policy guidance by implementing the 15th Five-Year Plan for the raw materials sector, enhancing inter-departmental policy coordination, and promoting the expanded application of high-quality products in new energy, advanced equipment, low-altitude economy, and other fields; second, accelerating industrial upgrading through the deep implementation of major new material projects, speeding up breakthroughs in key core technologies for advanced materials, leveraging the green and low-carbon public service platform of the non-ferrous metal industry, and issuing the 'Implementation Guidelines for AI + Non-Ferrous Metal Industry' and guidelines for the construction of a non-ferrous metal industry standard system to lead the sector's development towards innovation, green practices, and intelligence; third, deepening capacity governance by implementing risk monitoring and early warning systems for key product capacities, strictly enforcing electrolytic aluminum capacity replacement policies, rigorously controlling new production capacity in alumina, copper, and other smelting sectors, revising industry standard regulations for copper, aluminum, and others to resolutely curb low-level duplication of construction, and fostering a fair, healthy, and orderly market environment.
