Turkey Bans Social Media Accounts for Children Under 15
Under new regulations issued by official decree, Turkey has prohibited social media platforms from serving users under the age of 15. Social media companies will be required to verify user ages using tokens from the Turkish e-government system when accounts are created. The rules mandate that if a user is found to be under 15, the platform must block their account application. The regulations take effect on November 1, following a bill passed by the Turkish parliament in April. Age verification for existing accounts is expected to be completed by March 31, 2027, and accounts belonging to users discovered to be under 15 will be closed.
