brooks-debt
From the author
Tech debt assessment that identifies, classifies, and prioritizes maintainability problems — helping teams build a refactoring roadmap — drawing on twelve classic engineering books. Triggers when: user asks about tech debt, refactoring priorities, what to clean up first, or asks "why is this so hard to change?", "what should we fix first?", or "how do I justify refactoring to management?". Do NOT trigger for: server health checks, HTTP /health endpoints, Kubernetes probes, database health, or application uptime — "health" in those contexts is infrastructure, not code quality. Also not for single-function refactoring questions.

- tech-debtanthropics/knowledge-work-pluginsIdentify, categorize, and prioritize technical debt. Trigger with "tech debt", "technical debt audit", "what should we refactor", "code health", or when the user asks about code quality, refactoring priorities, or maintenance backlog.OfficialEngineering★ 31K
- brooks-audithyhmrright/brooks-lintArchitecture audit that maps module dependencies, checks layering integrity, and flags structural decay across a codebase, drawing on twelve classic engineering books. Triggers when: user asks to audit architecture, review folder/module structure, check for circular imports, understand how the codebase is organized, or asks "does this follow clean architecture?" or "why does everything depend on everything?". Also triggers for onboarding requests: "explain this codebase to a new developer" or "give me a codebase tour" (use onboarding mode). Do NOT trigger for: PR-level code review (use brooks-review) or line-level refactoring questions — this skill analyzes structural/module-level concerns, not individual functions.Planning★ 1.5K
- zero-tech-debtjeremylongshore/tons-of-skills-marketplaceRebuild a feature as if the correct product architecture existed from day one — remove compatibility cruft, dead abstractions, and historical compromises instead of preserving them. Use when the operator says "refactor properly," "clean up," "rewrite," "modernize," "remove legacy," "simplify," "rethink," "pay down tech debt," or signals frustration with accumulated complexity. Do NOT use for hotfixes, bug repros, surgical patches, or security backports — blast-radius minimization wins there. Trigger with "/zero-tech-debt", "do it right this time", "the way it should have been built", "refactor toward intent".Security★ 2.9K
- brooks-healthhyhmrright/brooks-lintCombined codebase health dashboard that scores a project across all four quality dimensions — PR quality, architecture, tech debt, and test quality — in a single pass, drawing on twelve classic engineering books. Triggers when: user wants an overall quality assessment, asks "how healthy is this codebase?", "run all the checks", "I need a health score before the release", or wants to onboard a new team with a quality overview. Do NOT trigger for: server health checks, HTTP health endpoints, Kubernetes liveness/readiness probes, database health, or application uptime. Also do not trigger when the user specifically requests only one dimension — use the corresponding focused skill instead (brooks-review / brooks-audit / brooks-debt / brooks-test).Testing★ 1.5K
- technical-debt-managementcbrock84/headcountMakes technical debt visible and decidable — distinguishing real debt from mess, quantifying its cost, and arguing for remediation in business terms. Use this to assess and prioritize debt, decide whether to fix or live with something, justify remediation work to non-engineers, or plan a migration off a system nobody wants to touch.Planning★ 2.1K
- tech-debt-auditcode-yeongyu/oh-my-openagentThorough, file-cited technical debt audit across 9 dimensions using AST-grep (tree-sitter), grep, LSP, and language-native tooling.
