Researchers have proposed a novel quantum encryption protocol leveraging the no-cloning principle to ensure that encrypted messages cannot be perfectly copied, even if an attacker possesses one valid copy and knows the classical key. This work addresses a fundamental challenge in quantum cryptography by offering information-theoretic security with efficient implementation using single-qubit Clifford gates for specific theoretical use cases like digital rights management. While currently limited to one-bit messages as an arXiv preprint, it represents significant progress toward practical secure communication systems grounded in the laws of physics rather than computational hardness assumptions.

Researchers reported an efficient quantum encryption scheme that uses the no-cloning principle to prevent encrypted messages from being successfully copied, addressing a longstanding challenge in quantum cryptography. The proposed one-time protocol uses classical keys, single-qubit Clifford gates for encryption and local Pauli measurements for decryption while achieving information-theoretic security with an exponentially small attacker advantage. The study is currently an arXiv preprint limited to one-bit messages in a one-time setting, leaving broader applications and peer review as future steps.
