Researchers have generalized quantum encrypted cloning by leveraging quantum secret sharing access structures, eliminating the need for bespoke protocols and perfect secrecy. This framework enables flexible, scalable designs for encrypted quantum redundancy that support varying degrees of information leakage across symmetric and asymmetric schemes. For the tech community, this shift from ad-hoc methods to a primitive based on access control opens new pathways for secure data sharing in quantum networks.
Secure Quantum Copies Unlock New Data Sharing Possibilities

Quantum encrypted cloning traditionally demands bespoke protocols, yet now operates as a general design principle. This work reframes the process, building encrypted copies not from new methods, but by systematically extracting them from existing quantum secret sharing structures. Threshold, ramp, hierarchical, and compartmented architectures demonstrate how access control defines the limits of quantum information recovery.
A new approach to quantum encrypted cloning, rooted in quantum secret sharing, expands the possibilities of the technology. Gabriele Gianini and colleagues at CNRS, in collaboration with University of Milano-Bicocca, Khalifa University and University of Milano, present a framework that uses quantum secret sharing access structures as a blueprint for creating encrypted-cloning schemes. The research sharply broadens the scope of quantum encrypted cloning, moving beyond specific protocols to establish a general access-structure primitive for designing encrypted quantum redundancy. By interpreting constituents of quantum secret sharing as mechanisms for delayed redemption, the team reveals that perfect secrecy is not a key requirement for this form of cloning, and enables the creation of both symmetric…
