The U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) has formally terminated a patent infringement investigation involving Samsung Electronics and several major U.S. technology companies, following a settlement between U.S. chipmaker Netlist and South Korean chipmaker Samsung Electronics, according to a federal notice published Monday. The ITC's notice in the Federal Register said the investigation targeted certain dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) devices, products containing such devices, and related components. The case, launched in July, was prompted by a complaint from Netlist alleging that certain memory products infringed its patents. Other respondents named in the case include Google, Nvidia, Broadcom, and Supermicro. The notice stated that Netlist and Samsung, including its two U.S. subsidiaries, jointly requested termination of the investigation on August 18 based on the settlement agreement reached between them.
