This work sets analytical upper bounds on the quantum capacity of perfect-state-transfer chains when channels are reused without reset, showing that residual excitations degrade entanglement distribution and that transmission fails beyond a stated timing-error threshold. The result is a theoretical ceiling, not a demonstrated device or protocol, so its value lies in constraining how far such chains can scale. Readers building quantum networks should treat the specific thresholds as model-dependent, and check the assumptions behind the bounds before applying them.

Malta Team Bounds Entanglement Loss at 36.41% Timing Error

Entanglement falters predictably as channels are reused, but now there’s an analytical limit to how much performance degrades before connection breaks down entirely. For perfect-state-transfer chains, this research yields tighter estimates of that breakdown point than previously known, improving accuracy by over 22% as systems approach their limits. Establishing thresholds around channel reuse, including a guaranteed zero capacity above 36.

Repeatedly using a quantum channel limits the amount of entangled information distributed through it. Researchers at University of Malta have found that reusing channels without resetting them creates “memory” effects from lingering excitations; this progressively weakens coherent transmission. Their analysis establishes new analytical bounds on quantum capacity, a measure of reliable entanglement transfer, and reveals a maximal relative timing error tolerance below twenty-two point six three percent for all relevant chains with internal memory. Limits to reusing quantum channels, pathways for transmitting…
