Suspended Stocks Delisting Becomes Routine on HKEX; 25 Companies Forcibly Delisted This Year
This year, Hong Kong's IPO market has remained hot, with a batch of companies successfully listing even as poorly performing firms are accelerating their exit. Wind data shows that as of October 15, 36 Hong Kong-listed companies have completed delisting this year, 25 of which were forcibly delisted by HKEX; several others have received approval from the HKEX Listing Committee to be delisted and will soon exit the Hong Kong market. Compared with the same period in 2025, the pace of delisting for long-suspended companies has accelerated. Several market participants interviewed said that speeding up the removal of low-quality listed entities can improve the overall quality of the Hong Kong market, enhance market liquidity, and guide capital toward high-quality companies. However, delisting clean-up does not mean simply "delisting and being done with it." How to shorten the period of uncertainty during suspensions, while ensuring small and medium-sized investors have adequate information disclosure and comprehensive channels for seeking redress, remains an area where the delisting mechanism needs continuous improvement.
