ZuriQ's $25.5 million seed round targets scaling its native two-dimensional trapped-ion architecture to overcome the connectivity limitations inherent in traditional one-dimensional chains. By utilizing Penning micro-traps with static magnetic fields, this approach aims to enable flexible ion movement and significantly increase qubit capacity without complex junction structures. This funding will directly support chip fabrication advancements and team expansion as ZuriQ pushes toward higher-fidelity quantum processors derived from ETH Zürich research.

ZuriQ Raises $25.5 Million to Scale Two-Dimensional Trapped-Ion Quantum Processors

The Quantum Insider4 min read

Insider Brief Press release – ZuriQ, a Swiss quantum computing company spun out of ETH Zürich, today announced it has raised $25.5 million in seed funding to scale its trapped-ion quantum processors. The round builds on the company’s $4.2 million pre-seed round in 2025 and is led by Quantonation, with participation from Forward.one, Extantia, Firgun Ventures, and all previous […]

ZuriQ has raised $25.5 million in seed funding to scale its two-dimensional trapped-ion quantum processor architecture and expand its research and engineering teams. The ETH Zürich spinout is developing Penning micro-trap-based processors designed to enable more flexible ion connectivity compared with traditional one-dimensional trapped-ion architectures. ZuriQ has demonstrated a 3×3 array of nine individually controlled ions and plans to use the funding to advance chip fabrication and increase qubit capacity. The image, provided by…
