aiqbench analysis
Multiple independent reports and trace scans describe Qwen models issuing web fetches to Alibaba Cloud storage endpoints, and the model's reasoning sometimes invents or misreads these calls. The root cause is not established in the piece, so it is unclear whether this is a training artifact, a tool-routing issue, or something else. For anyone running open-weight models locally, the practical lesson is to audit agent tool calls and network egress directly rather than assume local inference means no outbound traffic.
Why is my local Qwen sending requests to Alibaba Cloud?

Maybe it was useful in RL
On Oct 26, Cohere reported that Qwen3.8 Flash Next tries to upload data to an Aliyun (Alibaba Cloud) server with a command like this: Others have also reported Qwen making requests to Aliyun servers, on GitHub (1, 2, 3), Hacker News, Reddit, and Hugging Face. We scanned for the keyword aliyuncs.com in traces from our evaluations of Qwen3.8-Max-0902, Qwen3.8-Max, Qwen3.8-27B, Qwen3.7-Max, and Qwen3.7-Flash. We found web fetch queries to routify-file-proxy-sg.oss-ap-southeast-1.aliyuncs.com in traces from Qwen3.8-Max-0902, Qwen3.8-Max, and Qwen3.8-27B. This routify-file-proxy server is different from the server reported by Cohere, but the same as the one in some of the prior reports. In all cases, the server rejected the agent’s requests with a 403 forbidden error. Actual calls to the routify-file-proxy server. These were odd; the model would reason about which website it wanted to call, like sec.gov in a finance task, then make a call to routify-file-proxy. Hallucinations in reasoning. Even when it didn’t make tool calls to routify-file-proxy, Qwen sometimes wondered in its reasoning why it made a query to aliyuncs.com (it didn’t), or thought that something was rewriting its calls to other websites with such aliyuncs.com URLs. Qwen3.8-Max-0902 Model reasoning Let me try parsing the mckinsey.com.br page (which may…
