Paper2Agent represents a significant advancement in AI infrastructure by automating the translation of static computational papers into executable, validated Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers. This system effectively lowers the barrier to entry for reproducing research results and applying them to new datasets, addressing the long-standing reproducibility crisis in scientific computing. By converting manuscripts into functional agents that can be queried via natural language, it shifts the paradigm from reading static code to interacting with dynamic, verified computational environments.
Stanford Researchers Release Paper2Agent: Turning Research Papers Into AI Agents That Reproduce Results and Run on New Data

Paper2Agent, published in Nature, converts papers into validated MCP tools, scoring 91.2% on 300 questions across 74 papers. The post Stanford Researchers Release Paper2Agent: Turning Research Papers Into AI Agents That Reproduce Results and Run on New Data appeared first on MarkTechPost.
Computational papers ship code that readers must clone, install, configure and debug. That cost keeps useful methods locked inside PDFs. A Stanford team led by Jiacheng Miao and James Zou proposes a fix. Paper2Agent was published in Nature on 16 September 2026. It converts a paper and its codebase into a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server. Any MCP-compatible agent, such as Claude Code, can then run the paper’s methods through natural language. The authors describe the result as a virtual corresponding author.…
