Foreign Investors Sell Off Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix for Combined 17.6 Trillion Won This Year
Brokerage reports indicate that foreign investors continue to sell off Korean stocks, with no signs of easing in the selling pressure. Data from the Korea Exchange on the 14th showed that as of the previous trading day, foreign investors had cumulatively net sold 203.6977 trillion won (approximately $141.5 billion) in the KOSPI main market this year. Of this amount, only Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix accounted for a net sell-off of about 17.6 trillion won, representing 86% of the total foreign selling volume. Foreign ownership in Samsung Electronics has fallen to an 18-year low since 2008, while foreign holdings in SK Hynix have dropped below their 10-year average. This round of foreign capital outflow is a core driver behind the decline in the KOSPI index. (Cailian Press)
