This research demonstrates how rotation in 2D Bose-Einstein condensates can override standard Kibble-Zurek universality during finite-time quenches, offering a new control mechanism for critical dynamics and vortex formation. By utilizing stochastic Gross-Pitaevskii simulations, the study reveals that ramping up rotation restores scaling laws at low frequencies while driving vortex numbers toward the Feynman-Onsager value. These findings advance our understanding of non-equilibrium quantum phase transitions in trapped atomic gases.
Rotation Breaks Kibble-Zurek Universality
arXiv:2610.05934v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: We show that trap rotation overrides Kibble-Zurek (KZ) universality when a 2D Bose-Einstein condensate forms via a finite-time quench. In stochastic Gross-Pitaevskii simulations, the rotation-induced chiral bias drives the vortex number close to the Feynman-Onsager (FO) value, independent of the quench time. Ramping up rotation with the quench restores the KZ scaling at low frequencies, with vortex numbers below the FO value. The vortices form a disordered lattice that a pinning potential can order into an Abrikosov lattice, even at low rotation. Trap rotation thus offers a control knob for critical dynamics.
