This research introduces a method to construct quantum circuits in linear time using weighted d-DNNF representations, significantly improving the efficiency of translating abstract quantum state descriptions into executable instructions. By offering exponentially more compact data structures than previous approaches like weighted FBDD, this technique addresses critical scalability hurdles in generating complex quantum operations without prohibitive computational costs.

Researchers Build Linear-Time Quantum State Circuits

Quantum Zeitgeist4 min read

Generating quantum circuits typically becomes computationally expensive as complexity increases. However, this work demonstrates constructing such circuits from weighted d-DNNF descriptions in linear time, scaling with only the size of the input data. Furthermore, these representations prove exponentially more compact than existing methods like weighted FBDD, offering potential gains in efficiency and scalability.

Weighted d-DNNF descriptions now enable efficient generation of corresponding quantum circuits. Any quantum state described by these deterministic, decomposable pseudo-Boolean circuits can be computed in linear time up to complex arithmetic. This means a quantum circuit representing such a state can be created with size proportional to the input description and calculated classically at comparable speed. Importantly, weighted d-DNNF proves exponentially more succinct than weighted FBDD as a method for describing quantum states. A new technique translates descriptions of specific…
