This article focuses on securing production AI agent systems by shifting defense boundaries from prompts to tool layers and implementing scoped workload identities. It addresses critical operational challenges such as mitigating prompt injection via tool outputs, establishing audit-ready observability, and deploying kill switches for critical data protection. These strategies are essential for organizations deploying AI agents in multi-tenant cloud environments while maintaining deployment speed and compliance.

Presentation: Zero Trust Agent Systems that Pass Audits and Still Ship

InfoQ36 min read

Advait Patel shares a playbook for securing AI agent systems in production. He discusses moving defense boundaries from the prompt to the tool layer, enforcing scoped workload identities, and mitigating prompt injection via tool outputs. He explains how to structure audit-ready observability and implement kill switches to protect critical data while keeping deployment fast and compliant. By Advait Patel

Advait Patel: Today, I'm going to talk about something that I have been working on for the past couple of months, maybe a year or so. My talk presentation is, "Zero Trust Agent Systems That Pass Audits and Still Ship." I work as a senior site reliability engineer at Broadcom, where I work on the large-scale multi-tenant cloud environments. Most of the times my job is about securing those environments in cloud deployments, cloud environments, and making sure that they still ship on time. Apart from that, I have been researching into cloud security and LLM intersection. I have been also part of the cloud CSA alliance group. I'm also project creator for DockSec, which is adopted by OWASP, and also have been founding member for one of the OWASP projects called AIVSS, Artificial Intelligence Vulnerability Scoring System. Apart from that, I was fortunate to be invited at multiple flagship conferences such as QCon AI. Also, I was invited to speak at SANS CloudSecNext in Denver last year. Also, I will be speaking to OWASP Global AppSec in Austria, Vienna. How many of you are running AI agents in your production environment? How many of you are still thinking, and…
