Photon Source May Lower Telecom Detector Costs for QKD

In entanglement-based quantum key distribution (QKD), the single-photon detectors represent the largest hardware cost, as both photons of each pair must be detected. A highly nondegenerate photon-pair source, emitting pairs at 548 and 1550 nm, requires a telecom detector on only one arm, potentially reducing costs.
