The National Science Foundation's renewal of $37.5 million for the University of Illinois-led HQAN marks a significant milestone in advancing modular quantum computing architectures. This funding will specifically target closing technical gaps in networking QPUs while expanding critical workforce development programs alongside major industry partners like Google and IBM. For the quantum sector, this initiative validates modular scaling as the primary pathway to achieving practical quantum advantage over direct monolithic scaling.
