This research demonstrates how machine learning models can disentangle complex kinetic factors to accurately quantify quantum tunneling strength with 98% fidelity. By mapping a new "tunneling phase diagram," this framework overcomes previous limitations in measuring fundamental quantum mechanical processes that were previously masked by classical behaviors. The approach provides a robust computational tool for researchers studying anomalous thermal behavior and reaction rates in systems ranging from simple molecules to complex amino acids.
Machine Learning Clarifies Quantum Tunneling with 98 Per Cent Accuracy

A fidelity of 0. 98, achieved through a new machine-learning framework, now allows accurate separation of quantum tunneling from complicating kinetic factors. Previously, the kinetic isotope effect offered only qualitative insight into tunneling, masking its true strength with classical behaviours.
A new machine-learning framework clarifies the complexities of quantum tunnelling, created by Xinrui Yang and Zhigang Wang at Jilin University, in collaboration with College of Physics. The framework addresses limitations in using kinetic isotope effects (KIE) to measure tunnelling, as these effects often combine tunnelling strength with other kinetic factors. Their 'tunnelling phase diagram' successfully separates true tunnelling strength from these confounding elements. It achieves high fidelity with R 2 values exceeding 0.98 and a root mean squared error of 0.21.…
