Link-Post: NY Times Expose of Fish-Farming (and one comment)

Published on October 11, 2026 9:01 AM GMT For anyone who hasn't seen it, this is a wonderful (horrifying) expose' of the fish-farming industry and the harm it does.  And it doesn't even mention the harm to the fish themselves, but you can see and imagine this as you read and watch it. This is not a weakness of the article but a strength, since it means it cannot be passed off as typical snowflake liberal propaganda.  It does describe in detail the harm to humans, to the environment, to people who eat farmed fish ..  It is a difficult read but something I believe should be shared as widely as possible. It is not coming from any "political position" so Conservatives and Liberals should be equally shocked.  The one thing I found disappointing - in the article and in most of the comments from readers - was the lack of a broader context.  If we cannot / should not eat fish, and if factory-farming creates extremely strong reasons (ethical, health, climate ...) not to eat meat, where does that leave us?  The article did not raise this point at all.  A few commenters mentioned vegan / vegetarian diets.  Nobody mentioned alternative protein (other than comments I posted). IMHO this should be front-and-centre of every debate about our food-supply, because it is one of only two sustainable and ethical options - the other being veganism. It is just crazy that so few people outside EA seem to engage and that so few politicians support it.  (As an aside, I recently attended a meeting of the "School for Moral Ambition" in Brussels, and when I mentioned alternative protein, nobody in my group knew what I was talking about) Maybe if people share this more broadly, we can do so with this added context.  Discuss
