Samsung Display, LG Display Reportedly Developing New Process for Apple's OLED Panels

36Kr1 min read

Samsung Display and LG Display are reportedly developing new manufacturing processes for OLED panels, according to Apple display suppliers. Sources say Apple is currently prioritizing the existing sputtering process to produce display panels based on High Mobility Oxide (HMO) technology. To this end, Samsung Display and LG Display are separately developing new atomic layer deposition (ALD) and sputtering process solutions to apply the technology to actual production lines. The manufacturing upgrade is expected to bring several improvements, including a key change that increases the luminance of individual pixels in OLED panels, thereby boosting overall screen brightness and potentially improving display contrast. If the technology is successfully mass-produced, the display quality of future iPhone and iPad screens could be further enhanced. (CLS)
