This arXiv preprint proposes a constructor-theoretic framework that formulates physical laws without explicit reference to time, aiming to resolve anomalies inherent in traditional temporal formulations. By defining dynamics through cyclic devices known as 'constructors,' the approach seeks to reconcile timeless specifications with conventional laws of duration. While theoretically significant for foundational physics, this work remains a speculative theoretical contribution rather than an immediate driver for current engineering or product development.

Constructor theory of time

arXiv1 min read

arXiv:2505.08692v3 Announce Type: replace Abstract: Constructor theory asserts that the laws of physics are expressible as specifications of which transformations of physical systems can or cannot be brought about with unbounded accuracy by devices capable of operating in a cycle ('constructors'). Hence, in particular, such specifications cannot refer to time. Thus, laws expressed in constructor-theoretic form automatically avoid the anomalous properties of time in traditional formulations of fundamental theories. But that raises the problem of how they can nevertheless give meaning to duration and dynamics, and thereby be compatible with traditionally formulated laws. Here we show how.
