Quantum Computing Could Transform the World But It Also Poses Major Security Risks

Distributed on behalf of 01 Quantum Inc. Quantum computing has the potential to transform the world. Unlike today's computers, quantum computers could solve incredibly complex problems in minutes—or even seconds. They could accelerate breakthroughs in areas like drug discovery, scientific research, and artificial intelligence. But the technology also comes with significant risks. A powerful quantum computer could threaten many of the systems we rely on every day, including online banking, email security, AI platforms, national defense, and billions of dollars in cryptocurrency. One of the biggest concerns is Q-Day, the point at which quantum computers become powerful enough to break the most widely used encryption standards. If that happens, much of the data protected by modern cryptography could become vulnerable. Another growing threat is known as "harvest now, decrypt later," where bad actors collect encrypted data today with the expectation that future quantum computers will be able to decrypt it. While many technology companies are beginning to adopt…
