Japan's Stock Market Posts Biggest One-Day Drop Since March
Japanese and South Korean stock markets fell sharply on October 15, driven by factors including growing concerns over risks in artificial intelligence investment. Tokyo's Nikkei 225 index closed down sharply at 64,425.95 points, a drop of 3,318.34 points from the previous trading day, or 4.90%. It was the largest single-day decline since March this year. On the previous trading day, all three major U.S. stock indexes in New York fell. Data showed that the U.S. consumer price index for September rose more than the market had expected. As a result, market expectations of a Federal Reserve rate hike grew, investors' appetite for risk declined, and shares of AI and semiconductor-related companies were sold off. Japanese chip equipment makers such as Advantest and Tokyo Electron saw their stock prices fall, weighing on the Nikkei index. (CCTV News)
