Three Departments: Inland New Energy Vessel Fleet to Double by 2028

36Kr1 min read

36Kr reports that the Ministry of Transport and two other departments have issued a notice on the 'Action Plan for Promoting the Application of New Energy Vessels in Inland Waterways (2026–2030)'. By 2028, the number of inland new energy vessels is expected to double compared to 2025, with electric transport vessels exceeding 1,000 and methanol-powered vessels surpassing 100. The quantities of electric official boats and harbor work vessels will increase significantly, preliminarily achieving demonstration applications across all scenarios. Methanol refueling service capabilities along the main line of the Yangtze River will be fully connected, and charging and swapping facilities for vessels in the water network regions of the Yangtze River Delta will form a basic grid. The green shipping corridors for the Yangtze River main line, Xi River shipping trunk line, Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, and other areas such as the Yangtze River Delta will be established as leading zones for vessel electrification, collectively forming a zero-carbon waterway transport corridor of 3,000 kilometers.
