State Administration for Market Regulation Continues Crackdown on False Advertising in Online Food Sales, Opens Investigations into 14,000 Cases
During the National Day holiday, the State Administration for Market Regulation guided local departments to advance a special rectification campaign against false advertising in online food sales. Authorities focused on key categories such as seasonal foods, influencer-endorsed products, and health supplements, maintaining a zero-tolerance stance toward false claims and consumer deception while cracking down on illegal activities. Since the start of the year, nationwide inspections covered 821,000 business entities, uncovering 72,000 issues; 14,000 cases were filed for investigation, resulting in fines totaling 61.3 million yuan and 289 referrals to public security organs. A significant number of non-compliant links and false advertising information on online platforms have been removed, incomplete qualification disclosures have been corrected, and overall compliance in food operations has improved substantially.
