University of Chicago researchers have demonstrated that accumulating and randomly shuffling imperfect entangled states using shared randomness significantly boosts Bell fidelity without requiring detailed state characterization. This approach offers a robust, universal pathway for enhancing quantum communication networks where decoherence and unknown sources typically degrade performance. By leveraging buffer memories to increase purification success probability across multiple rounds, the study provides a practical solution for scaling real-world quantum internet infrastructure.

University of Chicago researchers boosted entanglement fidelity using a novel technique—accumulating and shuffling entangled states with shared randomness.

Researchers at the University of Chicago and University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign have demonstrated a method to improve entanglement purification without characterizing entangled states or optimizing purification circuits. Allen Zang, Bikun Li, Liang Jiang, and Tian Zhong of the Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering at the University of Chicago, along with Xinan Chen and Eric Chitambar of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, proved improvement in entanglement purification for any fixed “-to-1 bilocal Clifford EPP” by accumulating and shuffling entangled states using shared randomness. This strategy utilizes buffer memories to enhance purification success probability and Bell fidelity, a key metric for quantum communication. The results…
