The Neo4j Ontology Graph Specification establishes a machine-readable standard for encoding domain knowledge, directly addressing the need for interoperability between legacy data structures and modern AI agents. By aligning with W3C standards like RDF and OWL while optimizing for graph workflows, this specification provides the structured context essential for reasoning systems to interpret complex enterprise domains effectively. This move bridges the gap between rigorous semantic modeling and practical application development in knowledge graphs.
The Neo4j Ontology Graph Specification: A pragmatic, open, AI-first approach

We’re announcing the Neo4j Ontology Graph Specification, an open-source specification for representing domain knowledge in a machine-readable form that enables interoperability and automation across data, applications, and AI systems. Ontologies are critical components of AI systems and enterprise applications, and… Read more →
We’re announcing the Neo4j Ontology Graph Specification, an open-source specification for representing domain knowledge in a machine-readable form that enables interoperability and automation across data, applications, and AI systems. Ontologies are critical components of AI systems and enterprise applications, and the Neo4j Ontology Graph Specification makes domain knowledge easy to describe, share, and use across Neo4j Graph Intelligence Platform. We’ve also developed software to support interoperability with W3C standards such as RDF, RDFS, and OWL. The Neo4j Ontology Graph Specification builds on this experience, bringing rigor and interoperability to a representation designed for today’s graph and AI applications. An…
