Researchers at Shaanxi Normal University have developed a physics-informed neural network approach that treats quantum gate design as learning entire dynamical evolutions rather than optimizing discrete pulse parameters. This method allows AI models to independently synthesize control fields and trajectories while providing diagnostic feedback on localized bottlenecks within the geometric conditions of single-qubit operations. By shifting from pre-defined pulse ansatzes to unified optimization under the Bloch equation, this work advances our ability to understand and refine the underlying physical structures of quantum controls without manual intervention.
Shaanxi Normal University Maps Gate Design to Evolution-Level Control

Quantum gate design is often represented as pulse optimization, although the physical object is the full controlled evolution generated by the pulse. Researchers at Shaanxi Normal University and Xi’an University of Posts and Telecommunications used physics-informed neural networks to represent single-qubit gate design at the evolution level, learning control fields, Bloch-state trajectories, and total duration together under the Bloch equation.
Shaanxi Normal University and Xi’an University of Posts and Telecommunications researchers are shifting the focus of quantum gate design from optimizing pulse amplitudes to learning the entire process of quantum evolution, utilizing a method called physics-informed neural networks. The work represents a move beyond simply finding a control solution to understanding the underlying structure of how that control is achieved. Rather than pre-defining control pulse shapes or durations, the team’s approach allows the artificial intelligence to independently arrive at physically expected results.…
