This research introduces a dissipative protocol that stabilizes Laughlin-like fractional quantum Hall states as steady states using engineered energy loss, bypassing the need for strict coherent control. By achieving rapid preparation across system sizes up to thirteen particles, this method offers a scalable pathway for simulating strongly correlated matter and advancing topological quantum computation on current hardware.

Researchers Propose a Dissipative Protocol for Preparing Laughlin-Like Quantum States

Dissipative preparation of Laughlin-like states Laughlin-like states, typically demanding coherent control, are now uniquely stabilised as steady states via engineered energy loss. This protocol utilises local dissipation and ‘pump’ channels to prepare these fractional quantum Hall states at a filling fraction of 1/3, offering a new approach to quantum simulation. Adiabatic pumping then allows manipulation of these states through slow modulation of the pump channels.

Researchers at Tong Liu from Chalmers Next Labs, and colleagues have created a new method for generating Laughlin-like states, key to both understanding strongly correlated quantum matter and developing topological quantum computation. A purely dissipative protocol, utilising local loss and pump channels, prepares these states at a filling of 1/3, potentially extending to other fractional fillings. Findings confirm the Laughlin-like state as the exact unique steady state of the system, with analysis indicating efficient preparation on current quantum simulators. The method offers a viable pathway towards the practical creation and manipulation of fractional quantum Hall states, advancing the field of quantum simulation. A five-fold improvement in the speed of…
