This study demonstrates that traversable wormholes exhibit inherent chaotic behavior and fragility when probed by quantum fluctuations, challenging the assumption of their classical stability. By utilizing out-of-time-ordered correlators to measure dynamical sensitivity directly on worldsheet fluctuations, researchers have established a novel method for analyzing exotic spacetime geometries without relying on complex holographic models. These findings deepen our understanding of quantum gravity constraints and the limits of predictability in highly curved environments.

Researchers Map Chaotic Response Near Simulated Wormholes

Probing spacetime with quantum strings now bypasses reliance on complex holographic models, offering a direct route to examine chaotic behaviour within exotic environments. Calculations reveal approximately exponential growth of out-of-time ordered correlators as a circular probe traverses a wormhole throat, indicating finite-time dynamical sensitivity. This establishes a new method using worldsheet fluctuations and real-time measurements applicable across diverse curved spacetimes.

It is now possible to compute finite-time dynamical sensitivity within traversable wormholes using out-of-time-ordered correlators (OTOCs). Examination of quantum fluctuations of a circular probe string passing through a wormhole throat revealed approximately exponential OTOC growth, indicating how quickly small changes can have large effects on the system. Even seemingly stable structures within wormholes exhibit chaotic behaviour from tiny quantum disturbances. This work introduces a technique for assessing instability by measuring how…
