This research bridges universal Lindblad equations with semiclassical Boltzmann equations to model heavy quark evolution in quark-gluon plasma without relying on restrictive approximations like the small-dipole limit. By incorporating a previously missing collision term, the study provides a unified framework for describing particle transitions from compact configurations to widely separated states within high-energy collisions. This theoretical advancement refines our understanding of quantum dynamics in extreme environments created by near-light-speed nuclear collisions.

Researchers Link Lindblad Dynamics to Boltzmann Equations

Previously, modelling heavy quarks drifting through hot plasma required choosing between descriptions suited to either tightly bound or freely moving particles. Now, coupled Boltzmann equations derived directly from universal Lindblad equations allow complete evolution from compact configurations to widely separated pairs within one framework. This advance incorporates a previously missing collision term governing transitions crucial for accurately describing how these particles behave.

Aoumeur Daddi Hammou of the Institut de Physique Théorique (IPHT) and Pol Bernard Gossiaux of both IPHT and Sorbonne University have linked universal Lindblad equations, a quantum framework, directly with semiclassical Boltzmann equations describing heavy-quark behaviour within the quark-gluon plasma. This derivation bypasses limitations imposed by approximations such as the small-dipole limit, enabling modelling of how these particles evolve from tightly bound pairs into widely separated quarks throughout their lifetime.
