This research advances the Wheeler delayed-choice experiment by enabling simultaneous control over both input and output beam splitters in a Mach-Zehnder interferometer using entangled photons. By manipulating these components, the study provides finer insight into how observation conditions define wave-particle duality at the quantum level, pushing the boundaries of fundamental quantum mechanics.

Researchers Control Photon Behaviour Via Dual Choices

Quantum Zeitgeist4 min de cititArticolul și perspectiva sunt în engleză.

Prior delayed-choice experiments typically selected only one beam splitter to observe photon behaviour. This work advances that approach by implementing dual selections, allowing simultaneous control over both input and output beam splitters within a Mach-Zehnder interferometer. Such manipulation offers finer investigation into how observation defines reality at the quantum level.

By controlling both input and output beam splitters within a Mach-Zehnder interferometer, scientists observe wave-particle behaviour using entangled photons. The implementation of Wheeler’s delayed-choice experiment with dual selections enables manipulation of these two beam splitters simultaneously; revealing how single photons behave under different configurations. An entangled state, described as a combination of zero and one for each qubit, utilises this level of control over the photonic system. A fundamental physics experiment demonstrates that photons exhibit both wave and particle characteristics depending on…
