The work applies formal verification (Lean 4) to quantum algorithm design, so AI agents can generate quantum programs whose correctness, success probability and resource use are checked in a machine-verifiable contract. The reported result is that human review drops to under 1% of statements after the shared framework is audited, shown on nine algorithms including RSA-attack cases. Readers should note that this is a single-group research result, and its practical value depends on how well the approach generalises beyond these benchmarks.

Researchers Build Trust in AI-Designed Quantum Algorithms

Nine complex quantum algorithms, including those targeting RSA encryption, were formally verified using an entirely new approach that required fewer than one per cent of statements to be checked by humans after initial auditing. This marks the first time correctness, success rates *and* resource usage have been bound together in a single machine-checkable contract during algorithm development. The framework allows artificial intelligence to build and guarantee quantum programs with minimal expert oversight, paving the way towards automated algorithmic discovery.

Verifying quantum algorithms previously required separate checks of their correctness and resource demands; these were often disconnected during verification. Lean-QuantumAlg, a new framework using Lean 4, now unifies those guarantees into one verifiable “execution contract”. This enables AI agents to develop quantum algorithms with less than 1% statement-level human review after auditing the shared framework, as shown across nine algorithms including attacks on RSA encryption standards. The system allows artificial intelligence to both generate and verify quantum computer programs; it…
