This is a laboratory result on quantum sensing, not a commercial product. A shaped-pulse dynamical decoupling protocol extends the coherence time of room-temperature spin ensembles roughly tenfold, from milliseconds to tens of milliseconds. Readers should note that the gain is reported against existing methods in specific systems (NV centres in diamond and similar materials), and the article leaves open how well it holds as systems become more complex.

Researchers Boost Quantum Sensor Coherence by Tenfold

Quantum Zeitgeist4 min de cititArticolul și perspectiva sunt în engleză.

A tenfold extension of quantum information storage, from milliseconds to tens of milliseconds, now unlocks more sensitive detection of faint signals within noisy environments. This advance stems from a refined pulse technique that shields delicate quantum states against common experimental flaws which typically degrade performance. The method promises practical improvements across diverse quantum sensors beyond nitrogen-vacancy centres in diamonds.

What limits the sensitivity of quantum sensors based on spin ensembles. A new dynamical decoupling technique, using carefully shaped microwave pulses alongside phase adjustments, sharply extends coherence protection within these systems operating at room temperature. The optimised protocol boosts signal clarity and provides an order-of-magnitude improvement in memory time compared with existing methods; it’s applicable not only to negatively charged NV centres in diamond, but also other similar materials experiencing significant variations in properties. Protecting quantum information within…
