The piece is a financing forecast from a major asset manager: roughly $2 trillion a year in AI-related capital needs over five years, which the CEO himself calls potentially excessive. For AI readers, it highlights how much of the buildout depends on debt and private capital rather than operating cash flow, and it signals that a few large investors are now openly questioning how far that spending can run. PIMCO CEO Emmanuel Roman said that financing related to artificial intelligence (AI) could rise to about $10 trillion over the next five years, ultimately reaching excessive levels. Roman estimated that over the next five years, the AI industry could generate financing needs of about $2 trillion per year to fund capital expenditures; by comparison, the U.S. bond market is about $12 trillion in size. Speaking on Tuesday at the 2026 International Financial Leaders Investment Summit in Hong Kong, where he appeared in a discussion alongside Blackstone President Jon Gray, Roman said the scale would ultimately "become too large."
