This research demonstrates a significant efficiency gain in quantum communication protocols by achieving a computational advantage with a constant number of interaction rounds, rather than the previously required polynomial steps. By establishing this separation for total Boolean functions, the study confirms that quantum methods can outperform classical approaches even when minimizing back-and-forth data exchange between parties. This advancement suggests new pathways for optimizing distributed quantum algorithms where communication overhead is a critical constraint.
Nagoya University Finds Speed-Up in Quantum Communication

For the first time, a demonstrable advantage has emerged where quantum computers outperform classical ones even with limited communication exchanges. Achieving a power separation of 3/2 −1/(4t), this work establishes an efficiency gain over previous separations requiring far more computational steps. Specifically, setting t = 1 yields a four-round protocol demonstrating this improved performance for at least one total function.
A polynomial gap exists between randomised communication and constant-round quantum communication using a total Boolean function developed at Nagoya University, enabling computation previously requiring many exchanges of information. Atsuya Hasegawa and François Le Gall led the research detailing this advancement. Quantum computation now exhibits advantage with remarkably few communication steps between parties involved. Establishing superiority formerly required numerous exchanges of information, but this new work achieves…
