This is fundamental condensed-matter research on how small twist-angle changes in bilayer MoTe2 shift its electronic phases, including fractional topological states and superconductivity. It is relevant to quantum readers mainly as basic science on topological and correlated states that could inform future quantum devices, not as near-term technology. The reported angle-dependent mapping is useful for reproducibility, though the practical payoff remains speculative.

Twisted bilayer MoTe2 exhibits evolving quantum phases, transitioning from valley-polarized topological states to superconductivity between 3.79° and 5.76° twist angles.

The study reveals how this material transitions from hosting valley-polarized, fractional topological states to valley-degenerate correlated states and even superconductivity as the angle changes. At a moiré hole filling factor of νh = 1/2, signatures of an anomalous composite Fermi liquid appear alongside fractional quantum anomalous Hall states. The work uncovers a unified twist-angle-driven phase evolution linking fractional topology, symmetry breaking, magnetic order and superconductivity, providing new insight into the emergent quantum phenomena in moiré systems. Researchers calibrated the twist angle of fifteen bilayer MoTe2 devices using quantum oscillations under magnetic fields, enabling a systematic mapping of the material’s transport phase diagram. These…
