This article details a critical evolution in AI security where attackers repurpose stolen or misconfigured local model servers as reasoning engines for autonomous offensive agents. The threat landscape has shifted from simply reselling cloud compute (LLMjacking) to weaponizing self-hosted infrastructure like Ollama to generate exploits and automate multi-stage attacks. Defenders must now prioritize hardening local AI deployments against being hijacked as the decision-making core of cyber tools.

LLMjacking evolved: Attackers are using stolen AI compute to build offensive agentic tools

On June 12, 2026, the Sysdig Threat Research Team (TRT) observed a threat actor using a misconfigured Ollama model server as the reasoning engine for an automated, multi-stage offensive security tool. The actor was not chatting with the model or reselling access. Instead, they wired access to the AI tool into a software pipeline that scans a target, matches it to known vulnerabilities, writes proof-of-concept exploits, and attempts to break into a victim’s environment — with the model making the decisions at every step. Because the threat actor’s offensive tool sends its full instructions to the model on every request, the Sysdig TRT captured the framework's complete architecture: every stage of its logic, the structure it imposes on the model's output, and the signature it uses to confirm a compromise. The research below documents the threat actor, their framework, and what defenders running self-hosted AI infrastructure should do to defend themselves from threats like this. This operation is the latest step in a threat pattern the Sysdig TRT has tracked since 2024. In May 2024, we coined the term LLMjacking to describe threat actors using stolen cloud credentials to gain access to a victim's paid AI model services and leverage the…
