QECert is a Lean library that formalizes quantum error-correction criteria for both stabilizer and CSS codes, with quantum LDPC codes as the main case study. Its distinguishing aim is to verify asymptotic scalability and fundamental limits, not just individual codes. For quantum computing readers, the open items, notably a concrete three-dimensional construction and its lifetime bound, mark where the framework's practical payoff is still pending.

Lean library links quantum codes to their error-correction criteria

Quantum error correction provides the mathematical basis for protecting quantum information against noise, and existing formalizations have established foundations for stabilizer codes and code verification. QECert, a Lean library, connects quantum error-correction criteria, stabilizer and Calderbank–Shor–Steane codes, and constructions within a common framework.

Researchers at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) and QudeLeap Research have created QECert, a Lean library designed to rigorously formalize the foundations of scalable quantum error correction. The library unifies quantum error-correction criteria with both Stabilizer and Calderbank-Shor-Steane codes within a single framework, going beyond existing formalizations focused solely on code verification. QECert formalizes constructions including hypergraph products and quantum Tanner codes, using asymptotically good quantum low density parity check codes as a principal case study to establish a reusable foundation for studying the limits of quantum error correction. The work supports systematic verification and further development of the theory. The library’s construction builds upon existing foundations for code verification by…
