This work maps photonic (continuous-variable) quantum systems onto qubit circuits by truncating Fock space to dimensions 2 and 4, and releases COΦ, a Python compiler that targets OpenQASM. For quantum researchers, the practical value is the ability to simulate photonic behaviour such as Gaussian Boson Sampling on existing gate-based hardware, though truncation limits the size and fidelity of what can be modelled. Readers should check how the truncation error scales beyond these small dimensions before treating the results as more than a useful bridge between approaches.
Kp Labs Simulates Photonics on Digital Qubits

Before now, simulating even basic photonic experiments required specialised hardware; complex light behaviours were largely inaccessible to standard digital computers. This work provides explicit circuit constructions for representing fundamental optical elements, phase rotations and beam splitters, within just two or four qubit states. It’s an early step towards uniting photonics with existing qubit technology, opening new avenues for exploring quantum optics via readily accessible platforms.
A method for mapping systems described by light onto circuits using qubits now links photonic and qubit-based approaches to quantum computing. The technique truncates the mathematical description of single-mode optical states, known as Fock space, to dimension N = 2 and N = 4.; enabling representation of operations like phase rotations and beam splitters. A Python compiler called COΦ is also available, translating photonics…
