This study demonstrates that in quantum walks, the probability distribution between exits is governed by measurement frequency rather than spatial proximity, revealing a novel phase transition driven by the observer effect. The findings offer an analytical framework for managing competing detectors, which could directly enhance control strategies for data transmission in quantum networks and optimization search algorithms.

The Observer Effect in Action: How Measurement Intervals Control the Outcome of Quantum Random Walks

In classical physics, the probability of where a moving object will arrive depends directly on the geometry of space. If a particle undergoes random chaotic displacements along a segment with absorbing barriers at both ends, the outcome of its motion is predictable at the level of basic probability theory. The closer the starting point is to the left boundary, the higher the probability that the particle will collide with it before reaching the opposite edge. This principle is called the proximity effect. It underpins calculations in hydrodynamics, chemical kinetics, charge transport in semiconductors, and biological processes of biopolymer folding. However, theoretical physicists Prashant Singh, David Kessler, and Eli Barkai from Bar-Ilan University in Israel have proven that the quantum nature of matter completely…
