Researchers at the University of Twente have developed a photonic quantum protocol that uses three-photon interference to simultaneously verify multiple pairwise indistinguishabilities. This advancement significantly reduces the measurement repetitions required for characterizing identical photons, addressing a critical bottleneck in scaling up photonic quantum computing systems. By improving the efficiency of the Hong-Ou-Mandel test, this work directly enhances the feasibility of building larger-scale optical quantum processors.

Three Photons Instead of Two: Physicists Surpass the Ideal Test for Quantum Computers

GDELT3 min de cititArticolul și perspectiva sunt în engleză.

Physicists from the University of Twente (Netherlands) have improved the standard method for checking how identical individual photons are. Instead of the usual scheme where two particles are compared simultaneously, they made three photons interfere at once. This allows more information to be extracted from each measurement and reduces the number of repetitions needed to achieve the same…
