IQM's roadmap for the LUMI-IQ system marks a critical transition from physical qubit scaling to logical qubit implementation, addressing the fundamental challenge of quantum error correction. By targeting up to nine logical qubits by 2029 using advanced surface and color codes, this deployment aims to establish a fault-tolerant hybrid computing environment essential for practical quantum applications. The project underscores Europe's strategic push to build indigenous quantum infrastructure capable of supporting complex research workloads within the LUMI AI Factory ecosystem.

IQM to build Europe’s first quantum computer with logical qubits

Quantum Zeitgeist3 min de cititArticolul și perspectiva sunt în engleză.

IQM Quantum Computers announced its upgrade path for a logical-qubit-capable superconducting quantum computer, deployed to the LUMI AI Factory, and jointly funded by Finland, Czechia, Norway, and Poland. The system, named LUMI-IQ, will be delivered in stages, beginning with an IQM Halocene H4 system in 2027 with 150 physical qubits and early quantum error correction.

Europe’s push for quantum computing leadership gained momentum as IQM Quantum Computers (Nasdaq: IQMX) outlined a staged deployment of a logical-qubit-capable system at the LUMI AI Factory in Finland. The LUMI-IQ computer will begin installation in 2027 with 150 physical qubits and early error correction, scaling to be capable of encoding up to 9 logical qubits by 2029 with distance 3 surface and colour…
