Thomas Helbling, deputy director of the International Monetary Fund's Asia and Pacific Department, said in a recent interview that China is actively upholding a rules-based multilateral trading system, and that Chinese companies are also promoting the spread and implementation of new digital and green technologies through overseas investment. Speaking to reporters during the IMF and World Bank Group's 2026 Annual Meetings in Bangkok, Thailand, Helbling said the IMF appreciates China's efforts to uphold a rules-based multilateral trading system. "It is important that countries address the tensions and differences behind trade disputes. China and other economies play a meaningful leadership role in resolving some of these differences," he said. Helbling expressed hope that China will use investment to help other countries benefit from new technologies. Chinese companies' foreign direct investment plays an important role in spreading and applying new technologies, including in digital technology and green energy. (Xinhua)
