This study advances quantum computing applications by developing new computational techniques to simulate high-temperature superconductivity in mixed-dimensional systems. By combining matrix product states with mean field theory, researchers overcome classical limitations to identify conditions for lossless energy transfer in complex materials. This theoretical breakthrough provides a practical pathway for exploring pairing energies and carrier mobility beyond current Hubbard model capabilities.

Heriot-Watt Team Simulates Path to Higher Temperature Superconductivity

Quantum Zeitgeist4 min de cititArticolul și perspectiva sunt în engleză.

Beyond what current two-dimensional Hubbard models can achieve, new computational techniques suggest a pathway towards simulating high temperature superconductivity. Combining matrix product state plus mean field theory with mixed dimensional systems offers an avenue for exploring pairing energies while maintaining carrier mobility. This approach establishes groundwork for future investigations into these complex materials and advances theoretical understanding beyond present capabilities.

Two-dimensional mixed dimensional models support high-Tc superconductivity, overcoming previous simulation limitations imposed by classical computational methods. Thomas Köhler and Adrian Kantian at Heriot-Watt University used matrix product state plus mean field theory, a technique combining established modelling approaches, to identify conditions under which these systems exhibit superconducting behaviour. This provides practical guidelines determining when size limitations affect constructing larger systems from smaller units. Combining one-dimensional systems creates two-dimensional models potentially exhibiting high-Tc superconductivity; this approach bypasses…
