Intel has applied for a conditional exemption from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to continue maintaining and upgrading advanced robotics equipment manufactured abroad, stating that these niche devices are critical to U.S. semiconductor manufacturing. According to Intel's application submitted on October 16 and released Monday, the company fears that a ban on importing and selling new foreign-made advanced robots could affect the maintenance and upgrades of its automated guided vehicles (AGVs) used for transporting materials in chip factories. Intel stated that ensuring these robotic devices remain operational is 'critical' to U.S. national security. There are currently no verified domestic alternatives meeting the company's strict requirements, and replacing existing equipment could take years. Intel warned that if these devices stop working, it would have an immediate negative impact on its semiconductor manufacturing capacity in the U.S.
