Anthropic's $150 million commitment to the Genesis Mission marks a significant shift from general enterprise adoption to direct federal integration, specifically targeting high-stakes domains like NASA and NIH. This move prioritizes scaling specific AI models for complex scientific workflows rather than just providing generic chatbot access. The initiative underscores a strategic pivot where large language models become embedded infrastructure within national laboratories to tackle fundamental research challenges.

Building on our commitment to American scientific discovery

Anthropic is deepening its support for American scientific research by committing $150 million over three years to the Genesis Mission, a federal initiative to accelerate scientific and technological discovery through AI. The funding will go toward making Claude available to more than 15 agencies that are part of the mission, including NASA, the National Institutes of Health, and the National Science Foundation.

We first announced our partnership with the US Department of Energy (DOE) and the Genesis Mission last December. Since then, we have worked with DOE to bring Claude to scientists across the national laboratories. Today, we announced this new commitment as part of the Science: A New Golden Age Summit hosted by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy in Washington, DC.

We share the administration’s view, laid out in “Science: A New Golden Age,” that AI can have a profound and positive impact on scientific discovery, and we are glad to back its efforts to support American scientists.

Researchers at federal agencies and national laboratories work on some of the world’s most difficult scientific problems. Through our commitment, we aim to help them use Claude to meaningfully advance their work. Over the next three years, we will:

Provide training, onboarding, and technical support to scientists on Genesis Mission projects, and help agencies new to the Genesis Mission get their first projects running.

This commitment is part of our broader effort to support scientific research. Earlier this year we launched Claude Science, an AI workbench that integrates the tools and packages researchers most commonly use, and opened 10,000 free and discounted Claude seats for academic scientists. We also expanded our AI for Science program, which gives credits to researchers on high-impact projects, and kicked off a research preview of the Model Hardware Standard, a shared specification for AI agents to safely operate lab instruments. Our commitment to the Genesis Mission is our next step toward helping researchers everywhere.

We’re publishing a new version of our Usage Policy. In this post, we summarize the changes we’ve made.

We’re launching a new, expanded version of our Cyber Verification Program, which makes advanced cyber capabilities and reduced blocking classifiers available to qualifying security professionals.

Anthropic is investing $100 million in Claude Frontier Academy to train 10,000 Frontier Deployed Engineers by the end of 2027, with cohorts from Accenture, Bain, CBA, Deloitte, McKinsey, Morgan Stanley and Novo Nordisk already underway.
