This breakthrough demonstrates the first on-chip integration of propagating spin waves with superconducting circuits, effectively solving the signal noise leakage problem in quantum devices through unidirectional magnon-photon coupling. By utilizing a rare-earth-free YSGG substrate and high-cooperativity design, the hybrid architecture enables compact, one-way microwave isolators critical for scaling low-noise quantum processors.

Argonne and UIUC Demonstrate First On-Chip Coupling of Propagating Spin Waves to Superconducting Circuits

Quantum Computing Report2 min de cititArticolul și perspectiva sunt în engleză.

Scientists from Argonne National Laboratory and UIUC have developed the first-of-its-kind hybrid circuit, integrating propagating spin waves with a superconducting resonator on a single chip. This innovation allows for strong coupling between microwave photons and spin waves, addressing issues of signal noise in quantum devices. By using a rare-earth-free YSGG substrate, the team achieved significant power isolation, paving the way for compact, on-chip microwave isolators for quantum circuits. The post Argonne and UIUC Demonstrate First On-Chip Coupling of Propagating Spin Waves to Superconducting Circuits appeared first on Quantum Computing Report.

Two layers of the device are shown separately to clarify the coupling between them. Spin waves in the thin film excite microwaves in the L-shaped superconducting circuit. The microwaves then travel to the rest of the device through the path…
