Nvidia and Nokia have successfully executed the first commercial AI call over a T-Mobile network, validating Jensen Huang's vision of transforming telecom towers into distributed data centers. This development leverages existing infrastructure to create a massive, low-latency compute grid capable of supporting edge AI workloads without requiring new physical data center construction.
Jensen Huang Says Telecom Towers Could Become Distributed AI Infrastructure; Nvidia and Nokia Complete First Commercial Call
On October 21, at the GTC conference in Berlin, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang stated that artificial intelligence will transform the telecommunications industry by improving spectrum efficiency and driving communication towers to evolve into distributed AI infrastructure. He noted that approximately 100,000 sites could form a distributed data center network with a capacity of around 100 gigawatts. Huang also mentioned that after nearly eight years of R&D, Nvidia has completed its first commercial call on the T-Mobile network in partnership with Nokia. (The Interface)
