This report highlights a critical infrastructure bottleneck for the AI sector, projecting that data center expansion will dominate U.S. power demand growth through 2030. The shift to a 4% CAGR underscores the immense energy scaling challenges inherent in training and deploying large-scale models. For AI developers and investors, this signals that compute capacity is increasingly constrained by grid availability rather than just chip supply.

A research report from Bernstein indicates that surging construction of AI data centers is expected to drive continued growth in U.S. power demand at a compound annual rate of 4% through 2030. In the report, the bank's analysts raised their long-term forecast for U.S. power growth from 3% to 4%, projecting an additional 1,000 terawatt-hours (TWh) of electricity demand in the United States between 2025 and 2030, with data centers expected to account for more than half of the new load.
